چکیده

Are plants sentient? Like other aspects of the cognitive potential plants, this is a controversial issue, often driven by analogies and seldom supported on solid theoretical grounds. Sentience understood in sciences as capacity to feel. I suggest that because plants’ evolved adaptations morphological plasticity, sessile nature ecological constraints, they are unlikely have requisite complexity for sentience.

The Water Circuit of the Plants - Do Plants have Hearts ?

There is a correspondence between the circulation of blood in all higher animals and the circulation of sap in all higher plants-up to heights h of < ∼ 140 m-through the xylem and phloem vessels. Plants suck in water from the soil, osmotically through the roothair zone, and subsequently lift it osmotically again, and by capillary suction (via their buds, leaves, and fruits) into their crowns. I...

Do animals have cognitive maps?

Drawing on studies of humans, rodents, birds and arthropods, I show that 'cognitive maps' have been used to describe a wide variety of spatial concepts. There are, however, two main definitions. One, sensu Tolman, O'Keefe and Nadel, is that a cognitive map is a powerful memory of landmarks which allows novel short-cutting to occur.
